According to one study Social Media is used by 73% of the UK population. On this course you will learn the fundamentals of Social Media and discover best practice techniques which you can apply to your own organisation.

Marketing Tom has been delivering social media training courses for over 12 years and in this time we have trained marketers from not just Cardiff and South Wales but also Mid to North Wales.

This beginner-intermediate course is currently delivered as a ‘Live’ Virtual Classroom but still offers a balance of interactive presentation of social media fundamentals and open discussion.

Learning outcomes

  • Discover how the major social networks work and how they differ to one another
  • Gain confidence in  managing your own social media activities
  • Explore different approaches to using the social media platforms
  • Encounter new tools for creating, monitoring and publishing social media

Who is the course aimed at?

It is aimed at beginner-intermediate marketing and PR professionals and those who are managing social media accounts. Whether you are involved in Social Media for SME’s, councils, charities, the NHS or education departments, you should find this course of particular interest.

Module 1 : Social Media Fundamentals & Strategy

Our day starts off by taking a close look PR Smith’s SOSTAC® Planning Framework, which is ideal for planning your social media strategy. We then take a look at social media fundamentals, such as commenting, sharing, social proof and listening. We also consider search engine optimisation and its use in social media.

Module 2 : How to use Facebook for Social Media

Facebook is one of the main platforms that we consider on this social media course. We deconstruct Facebook pages and then closely look at how organisations are using Facebook to engage, promote, tell stories, raise awareness of brands and products, and much more. And how does the Facebook algorithm work? We consider Facebook posts, stories and briefly discuss paid advertising.

Module 3 : Using YouTube and TikTok for Social Media

This section takes a look at some of the key concepts of the YouTube platform. We will deconstruct YouTube channels and take a look at how organisations are effectively using YouTube to engage reach and entertain their audiences.

We will then discuss TikTok and consider how and when organisations should be using this platform and some of the techniques that you can use to get better traction from it. As with all the other areas we take a look at best practice case studies.

Module 4: Using Instagram for Social Media

Instagram has proved to be one of those popular social media platforms of recent years. We start by looking at the Instagram algorithm. In this section we will take a close look at the way organisations use Instagram. We consider how you should be using reels, highlights, stories, posts. How are orgaisations using them for customer engagement and retention? What are the best practice techniques?

Module 5 : How to use Twitter for Social Media

  • What is it and how are organisations using it?
  • What and how do you use elements like retweets, replies, hashtags, lists, etc?
  • How to build and nurture a following
  • Learn to monitor, research and listen
  • 3rd party applications and analytics

Module 6 : Using LinkedIn for Social Media

Our approach to teaching LinkedIn differs from the previous social media platforms in that we firstly look at personal profiles and then at company pages. The first part focuses on how you (on behalf of your company) can use profiles to connect, engage and inform connections about yourself and your business. We look at the algorithm and consider how to craft LinkedIn posts. The second part looks at how to maintain company pages.

Module 7 : Blogging for Social Media

Blogging has been around for quite a while and we consider how it can be used by organisations and contrasting its use with corporate websites and online PR. We consider what blogs are and analyse how organisations are using them. One of the platforms we consider is WordPress.

The standard rates for our Cardiff courses are £249 (+VAT); early bird prices may apply. Please note that during the pandemic prices will start at the Cardiff rate. Prices include:

Times

Courses start at 9.15 am, though we ask delegates to arrive at the venue by 8.45 am (for our virtual classes we ask people to sign in to Zoom by 9.00 am). The courses end at 4.30 pm and lunch is usually taken at 12.30 pm with tea and coffee breaks mid morning and mid afternoon. To work out your travel times, please see the venue addresses below.
