Marketing Tom has been delivering social media training courses for over 12 years and in this time we have trained marketers from not just Cardiff and South Wales but also mid to North Wales.

Who is the course aimed at?

It is aimed at beginner-intermediate marketing and PR professionals and those who are managing social media accounts. Whether you are involved in Social Media for SME’s, councils, charities, the NHS or education departments, you should find this course of particular interest.

Introduction

Our day starts off by taking a close look PR Smith’s SOSTAC® Planning Framework, which is ideal for planning your social media strategy. We then take a look at social media fundamentals, such as commenting, sharing, social proof and listening. We also consider search engine optimisation and its use in social media.

Blogging

Blogging has been around for quite a while and we consider how it can be used by organisations and contrasting its use with corporate websites and online PR. We consider what blogs are and analyse how organisations are using them. The platforms we consider are WordPress and Tumblr.

Facebook

Facebook is one of the main platforms that we consider on this social media course. We deconstruct Facebook pagesand then closely look at how organisations are using Facebook to engage, promote, tell stories, raise awareness of brands and products, and much more. We also consider the use of Facebook insights, timing and advertising (boosting posts).

Twitter

Twitter is the second social media platform that we consider in detail. We start by analysing the Twitter interface from its timeline, to tweets and then exploring hashtags, follows and direct messaging. Having looked at the key elements of Twitter we then explore how organisations are using this platform and consider how they could be used by your organisation.

Video and image sharing

This section takes a look at some of the key video/image platforms being used today. We start off by looking at YouTubeand get to grips with channels, types of video being created and their use by organisations (both for reach and for embedding). We then take a look at the ever-popular Instagram and consider how organisations, as diverse as GE and Maersk, are using this platform.  We finish the section off by looking at Pinterest

LinkedIn

Our approach to teaching LinkedIn differs from the previous social media platforms in that we firstly look at personal profiles and then at company pages/groups. The first part focuses on how you (on behalf of your company) can use profiles to connect, engage and inform connections about yourself and your business. The second part looks at how to maintain company pages use groups proactively.

Delegate rates for Cardiff courses at £179 (+VAT); standard rates are £199. Please note that during the pandemic prices will start at the Cardiff rate. Prices include:

Times

Courses start at 9.00 am, though we ask delegates to arrive at the venue by 8.45 am (for our virtual classes we ask people to sign in to Zoom by 9.00 am). The courses end at 4.30 pm and lunch is usually taken at 12.30 pm with tea and coffee breaks mid morning and mid afternoon. To work out your travel times, please see the venue addresses below. Our principal training venue is located in the offices of Liberty Marketing in Cardiff Business Park, Llanishen. This location is conveniently located between the M4 (junction 32) and Cardiff City Centre, making it easily accessible from Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, the valleys and South West England.  Please note on occasion our training venues may be located in Cardiff City centre (always check the events page for correct location).

Who is your tutor?

The trainer for this course is Alun John. Alun heads up Marketing Tom Media and has been delivering Digital Marketing training for over 15 years. He has worked as a Digital Media lecturer in the University of Wales, Cardiff and worked as a Chartered Institute of Marketing lecturer since 2004, delivering training courses at both certificate and diploma level. He has given presentations at conferences on the subject of Digital Marketing and Social Media and has worked with organisations as diverse as the Welsh Government, Cardiff University, the Bank of Ireland, Sir Robert McAlpine, the NHS, Aviva and hundreds more. Many hundreds of students have attended his Social Media and CIM courses.
