How to set up Google Search Console
These are some of its features:
- Indexing: Google Search Console will let you know if Google can find and crawl your website, and if it’s able to index your pages. It will also let you add any new/updated pages to the index.
- Crawl errors: If Google encounters any errors while crawling your website, Google Search Console will notify you so that you can fix them.
- Index coverage: Google Search Console will show you which pages of your website are indexed in Google Search, and it will also show you any errors or warnings that Google has found with your pages. This is a really useful feature.
- Search performance: Google Search Console will show you how your website is performing in Google Search, including:
- Impressions: The number of times your pages have been shown in Google Search results.
- Clicks: The number of times users have clicked on your pages in Google Search results.
- Position: The average position of your pages in Google Search results.
A neat feature of this is the ability to find which search queries are not generating any clicks from your site. This may offer you with an opportunity to identify new pages or to tune others so you do get clicks.
- Mobile usability: With the increasing importance of mobile devices in search, Search Console provides a mobile usability report that identifies any issues that may affect the user experience on mobile devices. This helps you optimize your site for mobile users and improve overall performance.
- Security: Search Console alerts you to any security issues detected on your website, such as malware or hacked content. Timely notifications enable you to take immediate action to safeguard your site and maintain its reputation.

Step 1: Adding your site to Search Console
Ok, so I’m going to assume that either you haven’t done this before or that someone has added another site for you on your Googke Search Console account. In any case the first thing to do is type in your URL:
Once you’ve done this you will then be prompted to verify domain ownership via a DNS record. Copy the TXT record which is displayed and then log into your domain name registrar. In my case this is GoDaddy and I will show how this is done on their end (other registrars will be similar).
Step 2: Adding the TXT record to your DNS
Once you’ve had over to go daddy simply go to the menu, select my account and then click on domains.
Okay, the next thing to do is to find your domain in the list, click the three dots to the side of it and then click Edit DNS.
Step 3: Select the URL/Text/Sticker option
Select the URL option, enter the URL and then add the text that you want. You are now ready to post. In the example below I have added a text hadline and, like Instagram, dragged the URL: and headline to where I want. The headline option gives you the opportunity to select from three style and choose from (minimal) colour options.
And that, in a nutshell, is how you do it. To keep up with the latest tips on digital marketing and find out about how latest courses, please subscribe to our email newsletter.
