In three days it will be Red Nose Day (13th March) – our annual chance to make fools of ourselves for a good cause – and it is good to see that the Comic Relief folks have got involved in the whole Social Media revolution on their Red Nose website!
When I went to the site there were two things I looked for:
- Social Media Chicklets
- Buttons and badges
Red Nose Day has a presence on all the major social media networks, including Facebook, Bebo, Twitter, Flickr, MySpace and YouTube. It has 10450 followers on Twitter and its Facebook page has almost 20,000 fans.
What I particularly like are the banners and buttons. They have a number of static and flash banners, including one of Bryn, Nessa and Tom – all designed for people to place on their websites, blogs, social media pages. A ‘digital red nose’ facility allows you to upload and image and have a red nose automatically inserted on to it!
These viral buttons, especially the digital noses, can carry the message to places you may never have dreamed of and the viral effect reinforces the ‘brand’ and should have a big effect come Friday. Today, on Twitter I saw a prominent US blogger upgrading his Twitter profile with a red nose – more will follow I am sure. We saw this happening very much in the Obama campaign – with people donning Obama badges on twitter and changing the style of their blogs to mirror the campaign. It really is citizen marketing in action.
Let’s just hope that they raise a load of cash for some very worthy causes.
And here’s the brilliant Bryn and Nessa with Sir tom Jones in Barry Islands in the Stream. Enjoy!
