Here’s a quick recap of some of the interesting articles to do with digital marketing that I’ve come across over the past week or so. Obviously, I will add a little bit of commentary!
Creating Viral Content for Instagram and TikTok (via Social Media Examiner)
Social Media is ever-changing and the last year has seen some huge changes in terms of how video is used. So, this article was always bound to catch my attention. In it Michael Stelzner introduces us to 3 concepts that explain why some videos go viral: polarity, creativity, and energy management. He says that, “the polarity or surprise of seeing two disparate elements work in your favor because it jars people’s minds and allows viewers across the spectrum of interest to engage with your video.” To emphasis this he uses the example of Miss Excel on TikTok who use a blend of music and dance to highlight Excel tips.
To address the creative side, and especially for those who say “I’m not creative”, he says that everyone has a creative side and sometimes to discover it you might want to go back to your childhood and ask what was I creative at in school?
Energy management is all about time management. Try not allocating short bursrts – like 30 mins – to your creations but 3 hours!
To maximise the ffectiveness of this process Stelzner recommends setting aside 3 days:
Day 1 – ideation
Day 2 – filming
Day 3 – editing
The article finishes off by giving a top tip: like Miss Excel why not show the end result first and then walk visitors through the process!
LinkedIn rolls out new tools to give creators more ways to share visual content (via TechCrunch)
This has been doing the rounds for a few weeks. It looks like some creators on LinkedIn will see a new option for posting, namely carousels. LinkedIn did introduce a form of carousel – using PDFs – a few years ago. According to Social Media Today these carousels in the PDF format generated 3 X as many clickthroughs as other content. It also looks like LinkedIn will be rolling out templates (similar to thos seenon Facebook) in the coming weeks.
3 valuable Google Analytics 4 reports for SEOs
From July 2023 you will no longer be able to use Google Analytics Universal, so it make a lot of sense to get to grips with Google Analytics 4. If you’ve got GA4 set up, the reports they display will be a breeze to replicate. They’re also very useful.
